Start in Panning mode. Press Play and listen to where the sound sits between your ears. Drag the handle on the ruler to your best guess, then click the field — or click anywhere on the field — to lock it in.
Use headphones if possible — stereo imaging is far more precise through headphones than speakers, especially for subtle positions near center.
Panning — listen for the balance between your left and right ear. A fully panned signal arrives entirely from one side; center sounds equal on both. The beam marks wherever you place the handle.
Width — rather than a single point, a wide signal fills the field with a sense of spread. The two handles open apart from center and the whole span between them lights up: closed together is mono (0%), fully open is full stereo (100%).
Trust your first instinct. Toggle the Reference (center / mono) with Space/D to re-anchor your perception.
